full heart

my heart is full… I’m looking back on all the ways God is good..

Day 3 — Monday, March 7

Beginning each day at Origins Retreat Center was definitely a treat. There just aren’t words to describe the beauty of the place. Today, sweet Hester and Riann made us breakfast, and we enjoyed coffee, waking-up kind of conversations, and small screams about the weather being beautiful enough to wear cute skirts.

Going into today, my heart felt rushed and a bit frenzied to try to find moments to write songs or stories — I didn’t want to miss any moments God had for me. But, as I prayed and surrendered, I realized that I don’t want to put God in a box and tell Him when He should give me inspiration. I just want to follow Him — whenever, wherever, however.

Two big takeaways from today:

1. Dave and I had the privilege of interviewing a woman named Bongi. She is the head cook at the Emthonjeni Community Center and feeds 300 children a day and then goes home and feeds her son and her siblings.  She’s worn out. But beautiful. She hopes to find a good husband, and also hopes to one day open a catering business. I realized that because of God’s great mercy, I now view people as humans, not a rich or poor, black or white, or anything — just as God’s kids. Kids playing outside just want love and attention, same as kids in America. Some adults we click with automatically, and some people are harder to get to know.

2. I love worship. Yes, shocker. I got to have lunch with the worship leader boys from Mosaiek and we just couldn’t stop talking. It’s like we’re just cut out to love God through music and love the church and serve the church through music. It was ridiculously fun.
